Fans of Georgia Tech showed their support for early teams by wearing yellow jackets to games. Due to a lack of gold fabric, the football team wore yellow jerseys. Coach John Heisman chose “Yellow Jackets” in 1905. The insect is not related to the mascot called “Buzz.” It comes from the menacing theme connecting the color and mascot found in most college mascots.
