Retry Correct Incorrect According to the History Channel, the Greek king Pyrrhus famously said, “If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined.” This came after victories in Heraclea and Asculum during an attempt to invade Rome in 280 BCE, but those victories cost him 7,500 warriors, many of whom were officers. Since that was far more than he could replace to have any hope of winning, he retreated back to Greece in 275 BCE.
